Changes/Titles

Now that I've been (more or less) Blogging a little more frequently, I looked about my page, and found something that made me think...

This is what I had to say when I started: "Who am I? Well, that's not one of the questions I've got a good answer for. To some, I'm a mom, to others, I'm a friend, to others I'm a wife, to some a boss, to others an employee. Who am I to me? That's what I'm hoping to figure out."

Well, through this and a lot of other things, I think I have a better idea of who I am, and at least one of those titles have definitely changed. I am no longer anyone's wife.

There's something about that word, though, isn't there? It's clear. There is no ambiguity about a wife or a husband. You don't wonder... Do they live together? Are they getting married? If so, when?

I have someone in my life that I adore, and yet there isn't a title that I like for him. Boyfriend sounds so juevenile, and considering the things we are dealing with on a regular basis, doesn't say enough to me. "Partner" sounds gay. Not sarcastically, just really sounds like a same-sex relationship. "Lover" offers more details than I think I would prefer on an introduction, and "Friend" just doesn't say nearly enough.

So Ladies and Gentlemen - I'm on a quest. Give me a better word! This is your Mission!

Hmmmm....good question. Premaritalbliss, C preferred "Stallion" and "Hot Hunk of Man Meat", but me thinks that's not the answer you were looking for.

I like "beau"...but then again, I'm old fashioned like that. (Okay, honestly, just typing that made me sprew coffee out of my nose!)

Beloved
Dearest
Sugar Daddy.....

Good luck!

I happen to like "beau" as well, but living in the south like I do, just about anything is better than Bubba.

I dug out my "NEW Roget's Thesaurus - Revised Edition" which is at least 25 years old. More than likely it's much older. The page with the copy write info was torn off many moons ago.

Anywho, I found:

Inamorato: A man with whom one is in love or has an intimate relationship. Male lover.

[Italian innamorato, from past participle of innamorare, to enamor : in-, into (from Latin; see in–2) + amore, love (from Latin amor, from amāre, to love)

So, if you introduce D as your inamorato and you get the "huh?" look, you can just smile and tell them it means "person that knows all the words to Mr. Roboto."

Congratulations on the "no longer a wife" part too, by the way!

Well, there are some great choices already listed. But let's see.

Companion
Confidant
Beau
Sidekick (if you want to be funny)

or just introduce D as your friend, because that's certainly true. Take care!

So, are you saying that introducing him as "my booty call" isn't appropriate either?

Well, R wanted me to call him Boy Toy, but I think that sounds a little like 1980-something and a little like when we're not together he's just sitting around waiting for me to play with him (heh) or that we're not very serious...which I think we are.

So, sometimes I just call him my Sweetie...even though I always thought Lover was so much more...blush worthy...

Paramour? Consort? Sweetie? Other Half? How about Domestic Partner? The man in my life. My gentleman friend. (this one can only be said over a cup of Sanka.)
